Peace in our Lives...a moment with Fr. Jerry Orbos |

The last Community Celebration was one of the most "boisterous" we’ve had so far. While we were left laughing every now and then, it was full of reflection as well. For those who know our priest-celebrant Fr. Jerry Orbos, SVD, it is his trademark to use humor to drive home a point and derive profundity from examples of simple moments. |

Today we hear the story of the Transfiguration. It is one of the most important events in the life of Jesus. All the Gospels except John’s, recount this event as a turning point situated towards the end of Jesus’ three years of ministry. In Mark’s account, we hear how Jesus transfigured before his disciples, and his clothes became dazzling white, such as no fuller on earth could bleach them. Dinaig pa ang kaputian na dulot ng mga pangunahing sabong panlaba sa ating mga tindahan ngayon! Then Elijah and Moses appeared and they were conversing with Jesus. This event is actually an epiphany. A revelation. Isang kaganapang nagpapakilala kung sino talaga si Hesus. This is a feast of temporary glory, a flicker of heaven, a flash-forward to Jesus’ future resurrection. To what can we compare the significance of this event to our everyday experiences? |

Thought-Provoking Talk on "Stewardship and Blessings" (Or, How to Avoid Becoming "Bugoks") |
|

“If we in this community don’t come out from our own shells, we’re BUGOKS (unborn Hatchlings)!” These were the resounding words uttered by Fr. Arlo Yap, SVD, priest-homilist and teaching resource person at the June 7TH community celebration held at the Layforce, in connection wit h his talk on Stewardship and Blessings. The talk, it was observed by many, appropriately presaged and buttressed the formal launching of the Community’s fund drive. In pointing how members of the community can really live up to the name Magis, Fr. Arlo delved on the three convictions on which Stewardship is based. The first is that every good thing comes from God. And that since God is the giver of life in all its forms; He too, is and should be the taker of life. Human beings used to be whole in body, mind and soul but because of sin, the human spirit is being drained. Fr. Arlo likened the situation to a bottle filled with water, the latter slowly being drained as a result of a leak in the bottle. The root of all sinfulness, he added, is our selfishness, as we tend to play like God. It was only when Jesus came into our lives to save us that human beings became whole again. |
